Success for a club brings its problems. So many riders want to go on the Finchley RT Paul Simon Homes/Magic Homes club rides on Saturday and Sunday that the number of cyclists riding together on public roads has become dangerous. Having twenty to thirty cyclists going through Barnet High Road on a Saturday morning when there is lots of traffic simply isn’t conducive to good relations with the already troubled motorists. Time has come for a change, which will be to everyone’s benefit.

On all club runs, the groups must split. They are now far too big to manage and the potential for accidents and upsetting public and drivers is a real threat. Riders must put their ego’s aside and ride with the group at their level, that they can handle the speed and do regular turns at the front, then everyone will get a work-out that suits the standard.

Members will ask some riders, club or non members, to switch groups if it is felt they cannot contribute.

Max group sizes are 10-15 riders.

It is still unclear about who we should allow to ride with us, as it seems there are many non-members tagging along. The best solution discussed so far is that;

Mudguards and Flaps!  No guards – No ride! You have been warned!

For those who are not club members, please respect our aims and decisions on group rides. You may just want to benefit from our rides, or perhaps see how we are with a view to becoming a member. Whichever it is you have made the decision to join us, so please respect our aims and concerns. After the Saturday ride there will still be the social in the cafè after the ride so you can catch-up on gossip then.
